In minerals, quartz is formed by combining silicon and oxygen atoms. This mineral is one of the most widely used and the second most abundant mineral on earth. As a primary component in rocks of all types, it can form at any temperature. Pure quartz is usually clear or white, but can take on different colors depending on the presence of impurities within the atomic lattice. Different types of quartz have different uses. Since quartz is one of the hardest naturally occurring minerals, it is not easily corroded. A high melting point makes it able to withstand high temperatures
